Your local bicycle shop will have thin steel cable with a ferrule fixed on one end, this can be filed &amp; fitted to suit. The barrel end  of the cable will go through 2 or more holes to lock.  When soldering cable use a soldering iron as using a flame always seems to ruin the cable The iron gives a slower heat , the flame' blues' the cable very quickly. On thin cable try simply tying a tight knot, run in solder then nip off any excess. After soldering always wash the joint well to remove any flux.
