Synthetic oil?
07/24/10 at 15:33:38

A "Regula" cuckoo movement is marked "GM," "34-M," "Synt.-Oil" and "Clock 859." Is this movement (or any other) designed for synthetic oil only?

I would say no. The manufacturer is just telling you which oil was used on the movement before it left the factory. So it would be best to continue using this oil when reoiling the clock (without cleaning it). There will be the question of whether to use the same synthetic oil 859 after cleaning the movement. This is a point about which clockmakers will have differing opinions. The Etsyntha 859 oil is available from suppliers.
