Attention clock builders! How to Make a Foliot Clock presents full instructions on making your own clock. It is printed in the publisher's 8-1/2" x 11" spiral binding format that opens flat on the clockmaker's workbench for easy reference. The 88 pages are organized in twelve chapters with a table of contents, tool and material list, index, and 73 photos and drawings. The clear text is placed on pages facing the major illustrations, sparing the reader much page-turning during the project. The author's clear digital photography and drawings combine to show the steps leading up to a complete, working clock. The foliot clock is a weight driven skeleton timepiece controlled by an antique style foliot balance, rather than a pendulum or hairspring. Made primarily from brass and steel, it has a paper dial, a single hand, and an oak foliot. Pinions are of the lantern type, made to work with specially designed "saw tooth" wheels in keeping with the antique appearance of the clock. The foliot clock runs for a day and a half on one winding. Use your miniature lathe and gear cutting equipment, drill press, and other shop tools. Add some modern adhesive, tie a few knots, and create the "latest" in 17th century technology!
