Published since 1987, Clockmakers Newsletter completed its 21-year run in 2008, with 256 issues! It was necessary to end publication due to rapidly rising postage and printing costs. Editor Steven G. Conover continues to offer indexed sets of back issues and his nine clock repair and clockmaking books. The next new book in the series will be announced.
Clock repairers continue to use Newsletter back issues to learn about bushings, clock wheels, chime and escapement adjustments, and just about anything else connected to clock repair. CN featured full-length articles, repair tips, projects, questions & answers, product & book reviews, a column on modern clock repair, and a series of 17 lessons for the beginner. The clocks covered in the newsletter included modern ones, such as Hermle and Urgos, and older movements, such as the American strikers and all kinds of chime clocks. There was also great coverage of grandfather, cuckoo, and 400-day clocks.
