The foliot clock is a weight driven skeleton timepiece controlled by an antique style foliot balance, rather than a pendulum or hairspring. Made primarily from brass and steel, it has a paper dial, a single hand to indicate the hours, and a swinging foliot made from oak. Pinions are of the lantern type, made to work with specially designed wheels with triangular-shaped teeth, in keeping with the antique appearance of the clock. The foliot clock runs for a day and a half on one winding. Use your miniature lathe and gear cutting equipment, drill press, and other shop tools. Add some modern adhesive, tie a few knots, and create the “latest” in 17th century technology!
